In order to find eggs to hatch and call your own, you’ll have to venture into Dens, which are scattered all across the world in Monster Hunter Stories 2.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: How to Find Rare Dens
Luckily monsters aren’t exactly subtle. You shouldn’t have much trouble finding their Dens. Monster Dens are marked by their entrances, which look like grey stone arches. As you venture further into a Den, you’ll come across a nest where you can poach a monster’s eggs.
However, once in a while you might come across something called a Rare Den, where the entrance to it is gold rather than the typical grey. This means that the nest inside will contain eggs that could hatch into rare monsters or ones with rarer gene abilities.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: How to Find a Nergigante Egg
As any Monster Hunter player might expect, Nergigante is an absolute beast. It can essentially carry you until the end of the main story once you get one, including whomping on the final boss.
An egg containing a Nergigante can be found towards the last few chapters of the game when you reach Terga Volcano Base. Their eggs seem to only appear in Rare Dens.
The best way to forcibly spawn a Rare Den is to fast travel to Terga Volcano Base and head toward the Crystal Depths. You will see plenty of Dens on your way to the Crystal Depths itself, and there will be many Dens within Crystal Depths too.
I recommend having a Monstie on you that has stealth abilities, such as a Nargacuga, in order to turn invisible and sneak past all of the enemies so you can focus on finding Dens.
You can always fast travel back to another area and then come back to the Crystal Depths if you don’t spawn a Rare Den. The Dens in there will reset and you just have to repeat the process until you find a rare one.
Once you find one with a golden arch entryway, there’s still more luck involved. There’s no guarantee that even if a Rare Den appears that you’ll be able to find a Nergigante egg at all. The egg is black with red stars, which you can see in the picture below.
It may take several attemps, but keep digging at the nest until you find the Nergigante egg. If you run out of chances to poach that nest, you just have to repeat the process over again by going to another area and coming back to the Crystal Depths so the dens can respawn.
What makes Nergigante so strong during the main game are its stats. At around the same level, Nergigante’s Attack and Defense far surpass even Rathalos’ by 50-70 points.
Additionally, it’s got some incredibly useful gene skills, both passive and active. One of its active skills, Calamity Slash, does massive non-elemental damage to all enemies, as well as bestows auto-healing onto Nergigante for 3 turns. A useful Passive skill it has is Kin Cost Down (L), which reduces the Kinship Charge cost of Monstie skills.
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find a Nergigante right away in a Rare Den. There are plenty of rare monsters that you might find in them that can prove to be strong too. Nergigante is one of the best Monsties you can have, and takes the difficulty spikes later into the game in stride.
Hopefully this helps you wrangle up your own Nergigante in Monster Hunter Stories 2, let us know in the comments below.
