BAMtech is set to pay a minimum amount of $300 million to League of Legends’ developer, Riot Games. The relationship between the companies will provide content to regions across the world. The deal states that BAMTech will have the exclusivity to stream and monetize the game’s official competitions. The deal is set to last until 2023.
In 2017, a new streaming application will launch for PC and smartphones. Monetization for the service will be done via advertising and various sponsorship deals. In regards to other streaming services such as Twitch and YouTube, BAMTech will oversee its distribution.
Riot’s director of eSports, Whalen “Magus” Rozelle and co-founder Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill addressed some concerns of the deal via reddit. Some concerns included platform exclusivity of the deal.
